Sin has been passed down to us from our first parents, meaning that we inherit sinful desires that develop into actions. Sin cuts people off from the Lord, forming a wall of that separates Him from the people that He loves so dearly. God does not turn away from us, but it is our sins that cause the separation. The Lord wants us to live forever with Him, but we can't live in His holy presence unless our sin is removed.

Jesus came to deliver us because God knew that we were powerless to save ourselves from sin and it's terrible consequences; only Christ's death could bring forgiveness. No matter how good we may think we are, we simply cannot eliminate the sinful nature present within, nor can we "make up" for the sins of our past. Only Jesus can do that. Christ didn't come to help people save themselves; He came to be their Savior, both form the power and the penalty of sin.

Only through Jesus can we be allowed to stand before the throne of God, cleansed and purified, redeemed by the precious blood of the Lamb which covers our trespasses, allowing us to be re-united with our Creator. Many folks try to be good people and do what is right, but only through an abiding relationship with Jesus can we be saved and empowered to live in a way that is truly pleasing to God, for now and all of eternity.
