Our Need For a Savior
How did sin change the human race?
Romans 5:12 Romans 7:18-20
In the beginning, God created
humans as perfect creatures, but when Adam and Eve chose to disobey the
Lord, sin entered the picture, and it brought selfishness and evil
tendencies along with it. But the most devastating aspect of sin is its
end result.
What is sin and it's end result?
1 John 3:4 Romans 6:23
Sin is
breaking God's law, which brings the outcome of sin:
death (James 1:14-15). God
warned Adam and Eve that they would die if they chose to sin (Genesis
2:15-17)
Who has sinned?
Romans 3:23 Psalm 51:5 Isaiah 64:6
We are all born into Adam's
physical family -- the family line that leads to death. Sin has been
passed down to us from our first parents, meaning that we inherit sinful
desires that develop into actions. As humans, we've all sinned and this
is something we need to acknowledge and admit. Don't try to cover it up
like Adam and Eve did!
How did sin change our relationship with God?
Isaiah 59:1-2
God is holy, which
means He cannot ignore or tolerate sin as if it didn't matter. Sin cuts
people off from the Lord, forming a wall of that separates Him from the
people that He loves so dearly. God does not turn away from us, but it
is our sins that cause the separation. The Lord wants us to live forever
with Him, but we can't live in His holy presence unless our sin is
removed.
Who can save us from the grip of sin?
Matthew 1:21 Colossians 1:12-14 John 1:9
The name Jesus means
"The Lord Saves". Jesus came to deliver us because God knew that we were
powerless to save ourselves from sin and it's terrible consequences;
only Christ's death could bring forgiveness. No matter how good we may
think we are, we simply cannot eliminate the sinful nature present
within, nor can we "make up" for the sins of our past. Only Jesus can do
that. Christ didn't come to help people save themselves; He came to be
their Savior, both form the power and the penalty of sin.
Just how much do we need Jesus?
John 14:6
1 John 5:11-12 John 15:4-5
Jesus is our only
hope! Without Him, we will remain separated from heaven. Only through
Jesus can we be allowed to stand before the throne of God, cleansed and
purified, redeemed by the precious blood of the Lamb which covers our
trespasses, allowing us to be re-united with our Creator. Many folks try
to be good people and do what is right, but only through an abiding
relationship with Jesus can we be saved and empowered to live in a way
that is truly pleasing to God, for now and all of eternity.
