I have been perusing the forums lately due to extreme feelings of nostalgia and noticed that when Favian fixed our bot issue within the last year, Kenshin's account got deleted. Possibly because it was a duplicate or something, hopefully he finds his way back to the forums again!

I have been thinking myself it really would be nice to throw a discord or something together. If anyone is interested PM me and I'll starting handing out a link to one. I'd rather not make the invite public so we don't get any riff raff floating in, but we could always put it in a JO only board if it actually took off.

Sometimes it's like muscle memory where, I'm sat at the computer with nothing I need to do, and my brain instinctively hits 'J' on the URL bar. I then get a lil dopamine hit if I see the dark icon indicating a new post! I'm sure I'm not the only one that does this - clearly the way my brain was hardwired in my formative years.

Not sure if/when I'll ever kick the habit.

Hi Rando.  RO does have a Discord channel that a few JO members are in, like Alpha, Foxen Mert and a couple others.  I'd have to check and see if the invite link is posted in the thread I made long ago in the RO/JO only section.

I detest any kind of social media, so I won't jump on the Discord-train with you guys, but enjoy! I'll keep checking the forums from time to time then.

I wouldn't really consider discord social media in the classical sense, but to each his own I suppose. It's basically just a more robust version of xfire or steam that's focused on group chats (and activities) rather than direct messages. If it was actually active, it honestly wouldn't be far from how JKA was for me back in the day on dial-up which was essentially a glorified chat room, as the times I could actually play competitively were few and far between. I do miss the old text only days at times, jumping into voice can be a bit anxiety inducing for me, but I don't mind it with a group that I know.

That said, it seems like we know at least a few people that are definitely playing some cross platform games like Sea of Thieves and Diablo 4 coming up. I just thought of it as a free way to get people more easily interacting with each other again, and maybe even gaming. With the broken links, and so forth, I just really don't see the forums being anything more than archival at this point. Taking a note out of DarcWolf's posts, Discord seemed like something we could make our own in the modern landscape.

I do concur, that Discord isn't really "social media"  It's more of a chat program, where you can use text or voice in it.  I think it's much better than using TeamSpeak, since you don't have to "pay" money, although subscribing does unlock a few features, in order to have something set up for a clan/guild to use, and the text chat area is a lot friendlier.

One of the nice things about it is with the voice part of it, you can be in the voice channel in Discord, while playing a game, and not have to use the voice part of any game.  It can be rather annoying ingame, to listen to people screaming into their mics, or speaking languages you don't understand.

It's basically Skype/MSN with better group chat that you can dip in/out of
