Some help needed
« on: July 03, 2012, 03:22 PM »
Greetings to all,

Today i have updated the SWTOR client and bitdefender antivirus has found a trojan and blocked the activity.

Currently the installer loads and when ready to enter game it pops an error and stops.

Does anyone has a solution in this matter?

Many thanks
TA'Sx

I added the SWTOR folder to my exemptions so it would stop.

Suggestion: Turn off BitDefender, then run Repair of SWTOR. Then it should work.

+ don't let bitdefender or any other antivirus take action automatically always check the report and confirm yourself
false positives are the norm with all antivirus
(also check your firewall exceptions)

Well, this is just an suggestion, but here it is:

Download Superantispyware.

Install it, run it, complete scan.
It can detect and remove every malware program you have on your computer.
If there really is something...

Don't know if that really is your problem, but in this case you should try everything :)

It's a known problem that antivirus programs sometimes detect SWTOR as threat (trojan usually). I suggest to look TOR forums for help ;)

if you are still having problems getting the game to work

what needs to be done is :

1) check if bitdefender only quarantined the file/files if so simply undo the quarantine (Confirm via path that it belongs to swtor you do not want to un-quarantine something dangerous ! )
2) add the launcher + swtor.exe to the allowed/trusted/exceptions list or whatever its called in bitdefender (swtor.exe is in
gamefolder/swtor/retailclient/
3) add a fire wall exception for these two files too
4) Try to run the game if you still have an error message , in the same folder as your launcher you will find an executable called FixLauncher run it , after its done run the launcher again.

if that doesn't work or you are having problems with any of the steps and need more help
post your error message and bitdefender version and exactly what you tried to do
i hope you get it fixed soon :)

I'm not sure how with your program, but on mine, exemptions is under Configuration on the Scan page. It'll probably be in Settings or Configuration or something like that. I added the entire SWTOR folder instead of just the .exe, although it should work if you just add the files giving you problems to the exemptions.

If the program has already quarantined the files, then you'll need to undo it first as Lytali said.

If bitdefender has deleted the files, then you should add SWTOR to the exemptions, then run a repair of the game so it will download the missing files.

I also agree that it's easiest to not let your anti-virus automatically delete or move things. Then you can stop it for programs and files you trust (like SWTOR).

So um... what did you do exactly to solve the problem? I'd like to know for future, as I'm pretty sure this will happen again someday ::)
