Water on my laptop
« on: August 18, 2011, 02:48 PM »
I spilled a glass of water on my MacBook pro today. My plan is to just leave it upside down and drying for a few days (until Monday or Tuesday probably) and then try it. I was planning on getting a new desktop so I definitely don't want to spend a ton of money on repairs if there is any damage.

Anyone have any experience with this?

I'm hoping that doesnt happen because I would like to have a laptop for school. I'm getting a desktop which will be good for when I'm in my room, but it would be nice to have something I can use anywhere.

I took off the back to do that but they use weird three sided screws so I can't without the right screwdriver.

Still just sitting in the same place with the back open to dry. It seems totally dry to me, but there is probably a lot of water under the keyboard and on that side of all the components. I'm going to New Orleans to get all my stuff from my apartment today, so I'm just going to leave it until I get back. Then I'll probably try it on Monday.

When I got back yesterday and had to move my computer, something strange happened. I think the power button is stuck or something. It was continually making a noise like something was being clicked and was turning on and off repeatedly. So I turned the sound off, closed it, and just let the battery run down. Now I am trying to charge it to see how it's working and it won't charge at all. The light on the charger turns green (meaning charged) but when I hit the battery button it won't show any charge and the computer won't turn on (probably partially because power button is broken).

So I'm thinking I use an older laptop that is being loaned to me for class or the library and get my new desktop for my dorm and for playing TOR and skyrim.

Thoughts?

Sounds good to me. If you have any experience with building a desktop, that'd be the way to go.

I'd check out new egg or something. see if theres a micro center near you they got really good prices.. i picked up a evga 550 TI 1gb for 130 originally like 150-170. other parts are cheaper too and they get some sweet cases and other custom parts in.

I really like this case:

Only like $60 too! :)

I built my last desktop (the one I'm using now actually haha), so I definitely think I'm up to it.

Will probably be using newegg because I will have to ship everything to school.

Didn't end up going with that case, although I love it. I like it even more than what I actually got, but the price difference (pretty big difference after shipping) helped me decide on a Lancool K58W:

The case I posted before is a Bitfenix Shinobi. They make some other awesome cases too.

You can see where to get it on their website: http://www.bitfenix.com/global/en/products/chassis/shinobi-window
