Women's World Cup
« on: March 01, 2011, 06:32 AM »
So, not sure if anyone knows about this, but the women's world cup is up for grabs and there were only 2 countries submitting a bid.

Canada and Zimbabwe.

Yesterday, FIFA announced Zimbabwe has removed itself from the running.

This would indicate to anyone with 1/2 a brain that Canada should automatically win right? But considering Qatar beat out London recently ... well, nothing is a given right?

Anyway, to be honest I rather we don't host jack-all as this just means my tax dollars are used on something I won't benefit directly from and the gas prices will just go up yet again. I just think that its funny that even with the absolute obvious, you still have FIFA saying "we have to review Canada's bid" when it is the ONLY f***ing bid!!!

There's a women's world cup? I mean, I remember at one point watching the woman's U-19 when I was in high school and thought watching soccer on TV wasn't a complete time suck. But, then I grew up, forgot about the sport (except for the World Cup) and moved on. Now there's a women's world cup?...... Still not going to watch. Waste of time, waste of cash. Besides, Kara Lang retired and she was the only Canadian female soccer player I liked.

The only reason you liked her is because she was cute...oh yeah, and talented. But she is retired and the other girls need support.

I went to a game last year where the men played against Peru. It pains me to say that 80% of the stadium was filled with Peru supporters...in TORONTO!! Easily 90% of those are Canadians (either born here or with Canadian citizenship) but they cheered for Peru.

The other 20%, us, had to cheer on our boys as hard as we could because this is CANADA and they should have had home field advantage.

Problem is, unlike the rest of the world, here in Canada people are quite literally stupid enough to believe that hockey is a true sport and soccer isn't. That the other 98% of the world is wrong, and we are right.

*end of speech

Now, it was announced we got it...which should have been obvious. But also announced was that Toronto wont be part of it...
We have the newest stadium, the third biggest soccer support in Canada (Edmonton and Vancouver follow the men's and women's national teams better and I am proud of them!!)

You get your candy buttocks from Hamilton into a game bud!

And an ignorant at that.

Women's soccer, much like women's tenis, is actually very good and more often than no..far more entertaining to watch.

As long as the prevailing undertone of as sexist society continues to undervalue the effort and skill these women put forth, we'll have bold statements like that.

Womens' football is pretty interesting, they have a completely different take on the sport. That being said, it's barely ever on TV. As for local stadiums, I don't even know if they do it.

It's like womens' tennis (which I actually prefer watching women in), it's amazing how much just a gender switch can change performance (and I'm not talking about certain olympians changing gender from male to female).
