The Hunt for the Missing Taskbar
« on: March 20, 2007, 07:33 PM »
As the title suggests...my taskbar is gone. To my knowledge, it is not gone due to my mouse moving it, nor is it set to hidden....it is simply not there.
How did this happen? Call of Duty 2, in yet another ploy to make me despise the game further, has a little problem. When the game freezes (and for some reason it keeps doing that now, even when I removed the mod that was probably messing with it), it often comes to it that I cannot minimize the game using CTRL+ALT+DEL. The game window stays up, and I just see my mouse floating around, no idea what it's pointing to. After I had to actually shut down my computer twice, I figured out that, when the Task Manager is open, I can press the Delete key and close the selected program..yeah, right. Trying this when CoD2 crashed, again, got me nothing. Frustrated, and only on the edge of putting a fist through my monitor and a shoe through the case, I tried pressing Enter and Del, trying to select and then turn off.....finally, I yet again turned off the computer by pressing the power button directly.

Computer starts back up....and the task bar is gone. In the Object Dock, several icons have also become question marks, and the font's messed up. I restarted the computer, and as it loaded, the task bar shows up....then vanishes. No explanation. I found a little program that supposedly brings the task bar back up.....well, it did do that, just long enough for me to see the task bar before it vanished again....

A little research via Google seems to indicate that it could be that my user account has been corrupted (and I don't think it's a virus....)
Basically, my choices, if that is the case, are all a bit complicated, and what's more, they all seem to risk destroying my settings.
So, if anyone has any clue wtf Call of Duty 2 did to my computer (or made me do >_>), that can be solved simply, please, PLEASE help.

P.S. And if no one can help me, a little question: do programs/games installed through the admin account work for all other accounts, or new ones......I do not relish the thought of possibly reinstalling all my games/apps.....
