Chinese Aion Gender Ban
« on: November 19, 2009, 04:24 PM »
Check this out

http://news.mmosite.com/content/2009-11-04/20091104215816712.shtml

I think it's stupid. If anything, it'll make things worse as now women will be much more easily targetted for perving and all that.

Wow.  I hope 4chan attacks and destroys both of these mmos.  That's seriously gay.  My char on Runescape is a girl not for perv reasons but because I think they look better than the guys.  How can they possibly justify banning members when they charge for some kind of gaming experience.  Ugh I hate idiots

You ladies are missing the point.

This is not to stop you, the quasay-normal players, from having female characters, rather to prevent pervs from creating female characters and tricking little boys into stuff.

Alpha, when you first started playing with us, because of your age we had Councillors, myself included, making sure we kept an eye on our 14 year old.

There are countless of 10-14 year olds being tricked into thinking they met a really cute girl and then finding themselves lured into something sick.

For a second, just for a second, forget your own selfish need to have a cool looking character and realize that if this measure saves even 1 kid from being taken advantage of, it was worth it.

I applaud any company with the testicular fortitude to take measures like this which will not be viewed as very politically correct, but are in the end done for legitimate and good reasons.

Regards,
Menelaos

I don't ever make female characters, because it doesn't feel normal for me to play around as a female if I'm male- I like my characters to be true to me to some degree.

If that were the reason that they did it, fair enough. According to reports though, that's not why they did it. They did it to make women 'more respected'. I think this will do more damage than good for women. On the paedophilia front, then fair enough.

Webcam Gender is tarded, you should still be able to make a fem char and have a profile state that you're male.

that way both win.

That is a good point, however that would still not stop someone from "stating" they are a female while being a male.

Again, this is not for the players who tell the truth...they are not the target of actions like this. They are unfortunate collateral damage, but NOT the target.

Last I checked, the internet is not exactly the place that would work on a 'trust system'.

There are women out there manly enough to look like men. Lets just hope they aren't offended if they are told they're men.

In response to Rink, yeah in Thailand the move wouldnt be so successful :P

Instead of taking a pictre of one's face, I propose a webcam picture of genitalia, much more effective!!

....
