What has this turned into Mac vs PC

Both system's are good for certain things

1a.Mac is a lot better at running programs that reason why is because it runs the programs it "needs" to run.

1b.Windows isn't great at running programs the reason why is because it tries to run as much as it can.

Personally I like the PC for gaming I just need a better PC. :(

If I ever use a Mac music is what I'm using it for. :D

Anywho not all pre-built are rip offs if you get a pre-built computer "DON'T" get a e-machine people have had so many problem with those.
I would get a Dell if you rather not build one.

Dell are some of the cheapest. I have a friend that works at circuit city and he used to work at comp usa. and he sais that they are great for basic needs but cant really run major programs unless you get somewhat upgraded features. And that their life expectancy isnt that great.

I have a pc at work next to my mac for autocad/drafting work.

HP xw4400 workstation
Intell (R) corel (TM)2 cpu
6400 @ 2.13GHz
2.13 GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM
XP-Professional
and dual (two) Hpw22 screens

you should look into something like this, it runs multiple windows of Cad 07 for me and does ok.
It can slow down at times. But still a good pc.

Im not first hand familiar with dell, just make sure NO VISTA... =P

It's kinda silly to argue about what is better in what, in fact you don't really realyze that the things you own , own you. You are talking about what one bucket of bolts can do more than the other bucket of bolts. It depends what is being used for because you use it not somebody else. It's a simple principle you buy what you need. If you need a bike you buy one , you don't by a telephone. Coss like , is the telephone gona get you where you want to go ?
A more objective view is that If you wanna be a lifetime gamer and play games , buy a console. Coss it has better quality and in many ways cheaper ...
If you want to be a profesional get yourself a mac and use it for working, mainly because it has a simplified software. It's simple , because that way you can do it faster than on the PC. Imagine if you had deadlines to do in some graphic department , wouldn't you want to do it faster ?
If you wanna use it for both gaming and work and other things use a PC , it has many things in one , but because of that it's not proficient in any thread it has all of everything.
And here comes the other thing, If you are so rich to buy 3 things at once sure go ahead make the ppl at the store happy. And some ppl don't have the money to get a desent thing of any of those. Sure for US and UK a mac or a console might seem cheap as ice cream. But Not everybody in the world are filthy rich. Mainly because shipping over sea is very expensive. The PC dominates because of it's multy functionality and to a point in it's relayability. And Pc is just the thing that's more famous. It all comes down to what you will use it , so don't let a bucket of bolts dictate you, what you should get.

It really depends on what you are going to use it for.

Okay 2 things

First generally a MAC costs 2 to 3 times as much as a normal prebuilt system and for those that go oh but MACs don't have viruses 1 they do have some 2 there is free anti virus software that works great for windows or use the $1000 you save to buy some.

Second  Dell isn't so bad anymore I abuse my poor laptop I'll admit it it goes through hell for a laptop being used 5-8 hours a day most days. Yes it has died once. oh wait that must means its awful? Not really, it took them a grand total of 2 days to fix it and they sent someone out at MY convince to do it. Most company's have you send it in to them and it takes a week or more. And HP frankly recently has some of the worst service right now that I have seen. They told my friends dad the act of installing a game slows down a computer and it took them an hour to diagnose a dead DVD drive that I did in 2 minutes. Also when my brothers wifes laptop died because of a crashing issue in the ram and it killed the hard drive. They replaced the hard drive but didn't fix the problem so basically they sent it back broke.

If you want to buy from a company and want good service I would recommend Dell or Acer. Years past I hated Dell but they have done a fantastic job for all the people I know as well as for me and really have improved. And Acer is just spectacular too. If you don't want either of those I would recommend Sony if your willing to spend a little more money they make good systems as well or HP. MACs I do not recommend for an everyday person for Price and compatibility and waste. Unless your a graphic designer or do CAD or are an engineer, or another profession that needs a MAC It is not logical to get one. You spend twice as much for the same hardware if not more ON AVERAGE. For a normal person go with a windows system. If you want XP Dell still sells several systems with XP on them. And most of us here are gamers that means Windows.

Anyways these are just my opinions take them or leave them Alpha.

Well said Knight Ewie.

But - Master Alpha. I recommend you take a look inside your pc. See which cables go where. Disconnect them - and conenct them. Seriously.
There is only ONE place where everything can go in...
Some tough stuff is jumpers and master/slave. You might want someone you know to help you with that - if you can't, I wouln't recommend it.

I don't know much about macs, but stop talking about Macs being virus free. If you want virus free - and do not want to pay a ****load of money, get linux. No viruses - and Linux's free. You got the same problem there though - gaming is hard. You can get jka to work with a program called wine(free) though. Linux has a lot in common with mac - execpt you have to know a few basic stuff to even get it running, which are completely diffrent from windows, but - there are very very complete "Switching from Windows to Linux for dummies" guides out there.

What I recommend, is simply, buying one part - replace it, check it works - buy another. If you are unsure about where things are in it, take out your cellular phone, and take a little picture of it.

If you want a laptop - buy Toshiba. You might say, but Dell is cheaper. Maybe - buy Toshiba IS more reliable. My farther has had his for 7 years I think now, and all that has been wrong with is, was a button was once stuck. My brother once had a Dell... Yeah he was okay with it, and it did last pretty long concidering he droped it down the stairs 3 times before the screen broke.

But yeah.. Since you're posting on a forum full of gamergeeks, I recon you want a pc you can also play on?
Windows XP Professional, which you buy your own parts for would be my personal choise in your place...
Yours faithfully
