Inappropriate?
« on: June 05, 2007, 02:22 PM »
I got in a tad bit of trouble in World Civ today when my English teacher asked if anyone had a good joke. I decided to volunteer one what I'd heard and found hilarious. For the record, my band teacher and my algebra teacher think it's funny, though disturbing.
My English teacher asked if it was inappropriate. I answered "No," initially, but then revised that to say it is a bit inappropriate. Now, here's the joke:

Quote
A couple was invited to a swanky family masked fancy dress Halloween party. The wife got a terrible headache and told her husband to go to the party alone. He, being a devoted husband, protested, but she argued and said she was going to take some aspirin and go to bed and there was no need for his good time to be spoiled by not going. So he took his costume and away he went.

The wife, after sleeping soundly for about an hour, woke without pain and as it was still early, decided to go to the party. As her husband didn't know what her costume was, she thought she would have some fun by watching her husband to see how he acted when she was not with him.

So she joined the party and soon spotted her husband in his costume, cavorting around on the dance floor, dancing with every nice "chick" he could and copping a little feel here and a little kiss there. His wife went up to him and being a rather seductive babe herself, he left his new partner high and dry and devoted his time to her. She let him go as far as he wished, naturally, since he was her husband.

After more drinks he finally whispered a little proposition in her ear and she agreed, so off they went to one of the cars and had passionate intercourse in the back seat. Just before unmasking at midnight, she slipped away and went home and put the costume away and got into bed, wondering what kind of explanation he would make up for his outrageous behaviour.

She was sitting up reading when he came in, so she asked what kind of time he had. "Oh, the same old thing, you know I never have a good time when you're not there."

Then she asked, "Did you dance much?" He replied, "I'll tell you, I never even danced one dance. When I got there, I met Pete, Bill Brown and some other guys, so we went into the spare room and played poker all evening."

"You must have looked really silly wearing that costume playing poker all night!" she said with unashamed sarcasm. To which the husband replied, "Actually, I gave my costume to your Dad, apparently he had the time of his life!!

My class loved the joke (one guy commenting that he'd never thought of me in that light before, or something like that. Guess he didn't know I actually like humor). My history teacher seemed okay with it as well. My English teacher, on the other hand, was not quite happy. A bit later, she berated me for "abusing" her trust and telling an inappropriate joke. According to her, not everyone may have like the joke, and I should consider their opinions.

Now, I personally do not the think the joke is inappropriate yet (you have gotten the punchline by now, right?). Here's why:

1. 9th graders (I'm in 10th) are required for English to read, and I guess, seeing as my class had to, do a play on Oedipus the King (if you still haven't gotten the joke by now, look up Oedipus in Greek mythology). So, technically, the school has already ordained the joke as appropriate.
2. I did not lie to my teacher. I did in fact amend my first statement about how appropriate it is.
3. I don't care about the opinions of a small minority over the morality/appropriateness of the joke, seeing as they didn't even voice their opinions on the subject. Most feedback I got was along the lines of disturbing, yet funny.

What do you think?

Opps i voted yes but i thought you said "appropriate" for school not inappropriate lol. So i meant no. Anyway,

To be honest if she was teaching a group of 10th graders then she should have expected a sort of joke like that. Did she say she didnt want any type of jokes to do with adult nature? if she didnt then you have no reason to not say, well actually you didn't tell me jokes like that are not allowed. Obviously people have enough common sense to not tell a really foolish joke that would get you in trouble for sure, but this i see as nothing harmful or out of order for that type of class.

Just my opinion.

She was asking for it O_o if I were a teacher I would have tried to top you by putting on this:

What is probably the most disturbing about that is that it makes sense... and it could actually happen. :o

It was inappropiate.

1. Kids your age talk big but we all know you know next to nothing about this and should really keep it shut.

2. School may be where you meet your friends, but its an academic institution and you are not there to become Krusty The Clown, you are there to study so keep the jokes to yourself.

3. A screw it...I can't lie...

A. Its a bad joke

B. Tell her to relax

C. If they thought that was inappropiate, they should hear the jokes I tell....

Menelaos

Haha, I thought it was good, not hilarious but smile/chuckle-worthy :).

Now... I have a real inappropriate joke about Elton John that my friend told me the other day, this one had me in stitches.

Probably wouldn't be the same reading it though and I can see it being quite inappropriate for this forum haha.

PM for it if you want, I think it's a cracker.

I thought it was funny, but I can definitely see why a teacher found it inappropriate.

I can see why too... but she should have known better than to ask.

Shall I bring back this dead topic? Why not.

Already heard it, found it relatively funny, but it was one of those droning laugh sort of jokes.

Yes, if people can't get used to the real world then they most likely won't have a social life, maybe if your teacher was a bit more understanding she would have let it pass but it also seems she's a bit naive to the fact that it's just a joke.
I don't know teacher's these days, they seem pretty dull humored.

That's because some of them, like some of our members, drone on about the old days.

The old days this, the old days that.

'Back in the day, you would not speak like that to a teacher!'

'If I was born 50 years ago your hand would be on the end of my cane!'

Neither of those have actually been said to me, but I've heard them lol
