In need of an army.
« on: May 20, 2012, 02:30 PM »
Just wanted to run this by as an idea.

At the moment our memebers are overwhelmingly Jedi characters, predominantly guardians. This is natural, we are The Jedi Order after all, but it would be good to add some more people who play troopers (soldiers assigned to the order?) and smugglers (suppliers?) as their mains, this would open up the Order to potentially twice as many recruits

So I suggest we come up with an advertising campaign, both in-game and on SWTOR forums, aimed at attracting more of the non force user classes. Are we yay or nay for this and do people have any ideas?

Greetings Padawan Hermesean.

I do like your idea.

I think it will improve the rp and social activity in game.

Might also be easier to run flashpoints or likewise if people are interested.

We have talked about advertising in the Recruitment section.

For what's being said, it's still too early to mass-scale recruit people - we still have few knights/masters (or Generals) ready to teach new padawans (or Privates), so it's a bit too early to talk about it.

Apart from that, I definitively like the idea. But how do you intend to recruit? Just shouting in general chat, or do you have in mind something different?

The forums are a good place, making RP themed threads can attract people.

There is a big difference between mass-scale recruitment, and changing recruiting focus to particular classes. This could be done with small changes, such as location of events/RP or have our current non-jedi players promote us in some way. Also, having few knights/masters is not as big a problem as it once was. We are an academy now and all padawans can be taught by multiple knights/masters. However you can only advance from jedi if you have a master.

My opinion that just changing the focus on recruitment slightly to non-jedi classes may be a start and calming down the amount of jedi we get applying.

As a solution, we might just settle the most part of our events on Ord Mantell (Or Coruscant), instead of Tython.

This might work.

I like the idea Hermesean!

I think relocating is a good idea, but we'd need more. People will see a bunch of Jedi with Jedi Order above their heads and assume we are a jedi RP clan. We need a way of encouraging troopers and snugglers to join our RP, this may mean adapting somewhat.

Ehm... Isn't this true? Hence the name, no?

I'm most afraid of too fast growth. At the moment things are well within the limits, but too big growth can lead into a lot of trouble, for example uncontrolled recruits and such.

I don't honestly think we need that many troopers and smugglers. We ARE a Jedi RP guild after all. However if this idea comes to happen, I'd like it to happen by just relocating.

Aye. Following the Jedi Code in the life, no matter if you are a soldier or  knight - that's the base of our Order.

Id like a councillor's view here, are troopers and smugglers to RP as if they are jedi and have to follow the Jedi Code (obviously they have to follow the guild's code)

They can RP as their characters while following the rules and using common sense, not to overstep the mark or take their characters personallity to the point that it's in breach of conduct or is offensive to others.

Though it is easy to see how Jedi characters are more inclined to join a Jedi Order than most other non-Jedi names, as is a trooper to join a more Army looking clan than a Jedi one. Through fear of not having enough trooper or smuggler RP we already have a Hopeful or two that is one, as well as current members who have those alts or mains such as General Ekul.

More of those classes would be a good thing, but I think through word of mouth or through as you say some RP in those area's they will come.
