Alright, most of you are European so you will care about the World Cup.
Putting aside your impulse to make your country the winner (because chances are it won't happen since Mexico is going to win the World Cup in the final against Germany) lets all start picking our teams.

Go to this site http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/ (http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/) and scroll down to the 'Groups'.

Remember that only 2 (two) teams from each group advance. Lets start by picking only the 2 teams from each group that will advance.

ie:

Group A - France and Mexico
Group B - Argentina and Nigeria
Group C - England and Slovenia

Etc...

Group A - Mexico and France
Group B - Argentina and Greece
Group C - England and Slovenia
Group D - Germany and... Serbia?
Group E - Netherlands and Denmark
Group F - Italy and Paraguay
Group G - Brazil and Portugal (big freaking DUH)
Group H - Spain and.. unsure, I'll go with switzerland.

BUT ROONEY AND TERRY WILL TAKE US FORWARD TO THE FINALS THIS YEAR!

no, we just have too much win for all the other teams, it just would not be fair.
: Re: World Cup Predictions

Actually, the US team has been getting better over the years. Ever since you hosted the World Cup, the team has actually managed to be taken serious and has put some big time wins over teams like Mexico and other teams that for decades kept beating up on you.

I don't think so.
Look it, I am not a big England supporter (don't like Rooney...sorry, I just think he's a moron) so I don't exactly want them to do well, but the US is not going to beat them 3-1.

I could believe a 1-0, but you are not scoring 3 on them.

Why not? Terry's confidence (and likely form) is gone after all the trouble he's caused, Bridge won't even play for the team, Ashley Cole might not even be match fit, so you're left with relying on Glen Johnson (as a Liverpool fan I'll just say LOL), Neville (who is oldddd), Ferdinand, and Cahill. The US might not be able to contain Rooney, but I seriously doubt England can contain anybody.

Terry's proven since that his confidence on the pitch remains unteetered. Anyway, it takes a real selfconfident d-bag to do what he did anyway.

And the USA winning against England will happen the same year the earth turns inside out.

Alright, well now that Ballack is out, I am hoping Germany will move over Bastian into the middle (like Bayern did) and then give someone else the outside.

Great loss for Germany, but Bastian has played so well there, that this might be the chance for a younger player to step up.

Ballack has been slow in the EPL this year and has not looked up to par, however he did alwais rise to the occasion during the big tournaments.

Germany should still be feared, they reached the final in the Euro and for some stupid reason people keep forgetting they have reached the final 5 times and won 3 times.

clearly <country here> is going to win

that being said, it's not really that I don't care about soccer (OR FOOTBALL AS IT'S REALLY CALLED), I just know like nothing about any teams or have a chance to watch/keep track of it

also I'm posting in your topics, ruining them all

@ Rink - LOL, I'd love to be at the pubs to see it  ;)

@ JC - LOL

@ Mert - You are right, in spanish it is futbol.

I know that in the US (and only in the US) soccer is not as big as it is in the rest of the World, but the better your team gets, the more you will like it.

ok I made my predictions

DETROIT LIONS ARE GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL

on a REALISTIC (and on-topic) note, I dunno, if I remember I'll watch the England and USA game, and maybe whatever else is on. Maybe I should ask my dad, he doesn't follow any team, but he'll watch soccer when it's on.
: Re: World Cup Predictions

England will be good to watch.
Even the US team has improved so much over the years and thx to the MSL, that don't be surprised if they upset some teams.

It will be a fun World Cup to watch, that is for sure.

I'm sorry, but there's no doubt that England deserved to win that imo.

Even without Ferdinand and Beckham we were outplaying USA, their goal coming from a slip from our keeper. As a whole, our team performed better (nice latching onto our kits, USA).

We did unnecessarily fudge up 2 1v1s though.

I would change Green...for his own sake.

Perez in net for Mexico is not my pic either, we should be using Ochoa who is 100% better...

4-0 for Deutchland thus far is good.

Ghana's win is cool =)

Happy about Mexico's win yesterday over France.

Today's match with Germany was a complete and utter joke! 9 yellow cards in 70 minutes of play time is absurd. Ref was aweful and FIFA should kick this guy out of the WC.

The red given to Klose was not deserved since neither yellow was deserved. What a joke.

I hope FIFA is embarassed.

England have been playing absolutely awful in both of their games.. I've been raging about it with too many people to be bothered to write a long-winded rage-post about it. But basically, every single player has been subdued by the pressure and everything they do is extremely unimaginative hence nothing scores- the only close goals we got against Algeria were by the Rooney-Gerard combination of 1 2s and apart from that... NOTHING.

Rooney was playing as if just prior to the match he'd been told his family were all killed and that the murderers were having teaparties with the re-animated corpses with the intent of getting with them afterwards.

Fabio isn't uniting our players properly- if they played like this in the premiership league they'd have never gotten into their respective teams.
: Re: World Cup Predictions
: *<JO>*Menelaos June 19, 2010, 06:54 AM
Rooney is a moron!
He said prior to the game that England's 'B' Team could beat Algeria.

How you like their team now smartass???

The problem is that the English players really believe that the EPL is that much superior in quality to the rest of the world and that is not the case. The sooner they get their heads out of their arse the better.

They now risk not even making it to the next round!!!
Bet you they miss Owen and Beckham now.

Regards,
Menelaos

PS: Japan should have tied with the Netherlands today. Goalie messed up on that goal and after it, it was ALL Japan for the rest of the game.

haha The US usually sucks, so I would expect that too.

I think Argentina looks like they're playing really well and I'm really entertained by Maradona so I hope they do well.
: Re: World Cup Predictions
: *<JO>*Menelaos June 21, 2010, 06:26 AM
Since Mexico may face them in the 16, I hope they dont!!

Watching the Portugal game, 4-0 thus far....and N. Korea had looked so good vs. Brazil!!!
Chile vs Swizerland later will be a good one.

Spain should win and win easy, if they dont, they should go home and not bother playing the 3rd game.

The Penalty shot awarded to Italy yesterday was a disgrace! Italy should have lsot 1-0, yet for some inexplicable reason, YET AGAIN, it appears the fix is in when it comes to them. That ref is facing sanctions from FIFA (so is the rumor) for that BS call to bail out Italy.

You should love him as much as the French loved the ref who did not blow the whislte when Henry handled the ball with his hand just before France scored the winner to get into the WC and eliminate Ireland.

Still a bad call, no matter how much you love him.

Villa was horribly selfish and Torres hasn't played for months so you can't blame him too much. Too not the best game I've ever seen, they don't even try to shoot from distance they want to play two defenders trough their legs, walk the ball over the line and do it all over again. They're not efficient enough.

Ok, so after looking at the quarters. it looks like Germany will be playing Brazil on the final.

Yeah yeah, you may ask, well what about Argentina, they always dive and cry and act, sure they have the 90 year dol messi who like to put balls in with his hand just like his mentor Marranona, But in the end they have yet to actually play a good game. So i think their gonna be out as long as refs are actually counting offside and Germany doesn't give freebies

Spain would be a fin game vs. Germany, but i dont think they have it in them yet. On the other side, well, cmon, Brazil should have an easy stroll to the end. So i guess the only exciting game left besides the final should be watching the Argentina guys fall as much as possible trying to cheat the game and still see Germany woop their buts....
