What games do you guys play online?
My son got it for X-Mas and we've been playing online for a while.

none, and who would play w/ you?

Nice!

Don't have a PS3, sorry noob. You need to get a new pc.
-Rando
-
Nice choice on the PS3. What they say about 360s is true, you only get one if your mate has one. GET YOUR SON/YOURSELF HEAVY RAIN.
I play MW2 on my 360, bout it really. Fifa10 too.
-
Or get a 360 if you don't want to pay for games ;)
-Rando
-
yea and you can bug rando for a few weeks on how to do all that crap!
-
Or get a 360 if you don't want to pay for games ;)
-Rando
I'm too scared to do anything like that, like when they just swept through, banning loads of 360 accounts.
-
Well I need to get Fifa 10, I currently play 09 and rarely do I get the games with more than 5-6 people.
I miss the 10 vs 10 games.
My son bought the war one that he and Miridius play...can't remember name, but they are insane about it.
Can't be bothered with a 360, that would be another expense.
But you are right, I do need a new computer.

Menelaos

MAG?
-
Pretty sure he's talking about MW2. Regardless, anything is better on a PC!
-
So when are you going to get it?
Modern Warfare or something....beats me, but its always full of people and I can't stand it.
I like Resident Evil 5 for instance, the 3rd person shooter games, but 1st person I am not a fan of.
Regards,
Menelaos
-
You might actually enjoy a first person shooter on the PC, but who knows I guess. I have modern warfare 2 for both the PC and xbox, but like I said, playing with a mouse and keyboard is where it's at.
My services are always available, you know that.
-Rando
-
I play MAG, RE5, AVP, Metal Gear Online among others online.

Metal Gear online? wtf you talking about

loooooooooool 360 & pcs ftw!

meh, i'll survive w/o ps3

No issues playing online with our PS3.

There was an issue recently with the PS3, a really stupid one which made EVERY ps3 stop working for abit.. But that's just a blip on the radar. All in all I really do wish I waited for a PS3 slimline, you made the right choice.
-
It mainly effected the older PS3's not all of them but a fair amount, with only a very small amount of cases with the PS3 slim. It stoped in under 24 hours. The way I look at it, it does everything the 360 does, but ten times more as well. And what it does it's great at all of it, and it continues to expand all the time. It's far more future proof, and the exclusives are all great. I've had a 360, I bought it the day it was released, as I did the PS3. I'm wondering what the new FF online will be like that is coming out for PS3 and PC.

Except that it doesn't really do 10 times more. Regardless of what most people think, the 360 has more processing power than the PS3 does, even though the PS3 is employing the cell processor. The GPU in the PS3 is basically a scaled down version of a Geforce 7800GS. There's this and there's that. To be honest, if the next gen playstation still has free multiplayer, I'll probably pick that up as by that time maybe console games would be worth paying for. The only platform that I feel has the right to my money is the PC, my xbox games come at $25 for 20 of them.

The thing is, it does. I can do many things on my PS3 that is not possible on the 360. I can't surf the web if I want, I can't watch Blu Ray, I can't get downloads without having to buy pooints or such. I can't use the Vid Zone services, I won't be able to use the Firstplay services, I can't use the Video store. Nor can I use anything like Home. Among other things currently on the PS3 as well as many more things coming soon and in the furture.
And without looking at specs and numbers, I use my eyes to tell me what system produces the great looking games, that have good gameplay and acting in them. I can put tons of hardrive space in my PS3, I can watch freeview TV, pause rewind and record tv. I don't have to go out and buy a wifi adator, I don't have to worry about buying rechargable batteries, or have a huge battery pack hanging around from the console. I can plug my usb or blue tooth mouse or keyboard in for use, I can even install linux on my PS3 to use it as a PC and switch between using it as a console and a PC.
Theres many other things I can talk about but I can't really be bothered to say anymore at least not at the moment hah. I will say I did enjoy my tiime on my 360 when I got it, and until I bought the PS3. It's just I;#'d prefer to use something that is capable of almost all home entertainment capabilities than use something that is still in my opinion stuck in the past. Both are good but for me, the PS3 is the future, not by looking at specs, but by seeing the results and capabilites for myself first hand.
Everyone has their own tastes, so it's down to what you want to be able to get out of a system. If you just want a gaming system, online play, and dvd's, then 360 is ideal for just that.

Almost everything you said is available on the 360 minus web surfing, blu ray, and linux installation. It's not like a linux installation running with only 256MB of available RAM would be particularly useful, and you can't even install linux on the slim consoles.
You're right that everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but really the vast majority of stuff that is available on the PS3 has been on the xbox for longer. Netflix, the movie store, pleanty of free downloads (the dlc that you have to pay for is the same dlc that you have to pay for on the ps3), using tversity for tv, etc etc etc. Up until the Slim, you did have to get a wifi adapter if you bought the baseline model, blah blah blah, etc etc etc.
I don't really care for consoles in general, but I do enjoy some of the console exclusives like final fantasy, which is why I own one.

I must of had a different 360 then, because I was unable to download free stuff unless I was paying the monthly fee. I could play online but not download anything. You'll also be amazed at how well it runs with linux, thanks to the Cell processor along with 7 cores. And no you can't on slims, which is why I said mine, which is the older verison, which are also still sold at some if not most places. I also would of liked to of used HDMI on my 360 when I was using it, but annoyingly I would of had to of paid for another one called Elite to have a HDMI port, at the time when HD DVD looked as if it might of been okay, I would of liked to of been able to watch them, but I would of had to pay even more for the external drive and find extra space to place it somewhere.
Then again, I would of had to put up with the sound of a jet plane taking off, amount of times I watched dvd's at night or even day and had to try and ignore the loud fan going at it. So 360 has released a bigger hard drive now then?, i'm able to put a 640GB hard drive in my PS3. I'd be surprised if the 360 doesn't allow this then? seeing as it can do most of the content and downloads the PS3 can? And seeing as it's been doing it for longer, I'd expect they would of had increased and made everything much more improved by now.. But seeing as you said the things the 360 can't do are surfing, Blu Ray and Linux, I'm guessing you can also use USB/Blue tooth keyboards mouses and headsets then?. The RAM is designed to work for the PS3 to make it work more so along with the Cell processor than what it normally works in a PC. All the stuff inside is built to work best and specifically for it. There's so much to be learn't about the PS3's architecture and how it all works together to make everything work so very smoothly and fast. The way the PS3 uses it's RAM is also very efficiently. There's also a total of 512MB of RAM, one runs at 3.2ghz XDR, there are two modules of 256, the other one runs at 700mhz GDDR3.

You aparently didn't know how to use the Marketplace then, there are hundreds upon hundreds of free downloads that even SILVER members can access. The first gen xbox did not have HDMI, but it was not long before they did have hdmi and could be found on the cheapest model of the 360. If you want to start complaining about the fan noise, google about the thousands and thousands of peoples that had the incredibly loud fan problems with the first few crops of ps3's. You can use any USB devices for media storage with the XBox and you will soon be able to format them for use as memory units. You can use a wireless keyboard and whatnot with the xbox, but not wireless headsets, which are kinda redundant since you get a wireless controller you can use your headset on if you like. Obviously you don't actually know what the linux has access to. Linux on the PS3 does not have access to hardware 3d acceleration nor does it have access to the RAM dedicated to the GPU.
I never once tried to say that the xbox is better than the PS3, funny how quickly people get their feathers ruffled.

Problem is I didn't want to pay anything for these so called ''free'' downloads, to having a silver or gold monthly fee. This seems to of changed however it would appear this Netflix is gold only so are a few other things you'd expect to be free by now. Not something I myself would want to keep paying monthly for, also seems as if they add other functions you'd expect to come as standard just to try and convince people into paying for something, to get easy access to 'free'' demos to playing online games with friends to photo sharing and video chat.
And again you'll find linux runs really quite well, with the Cell helping to render complex 3D graphics, that's not saying it will do good on all programs though. Also remembering that this is all through one console and not seperate components or monthly fee's. Having a free virtual 3D world called Home, to meet up in, launch games from, look at news, join clubs and exploring online RPGing as well as maps designed by sony and other game makers designed around their games, was a really refreshing console experience especially since it keeps improving and getting bigger all the time, being able to meet loads of people in one area is cool on a console, like having 256 players on one map in MAG, compared to the current standard of around 16 or so.
Ah yes it does come with a headset that plugs into the controller via a cable, it's just I personally would like more freedom. And by wireless keyboard do you mean a actual fully sized one or the small one they released, I noticed a company has released an unoffiical adapter for people to go out and buy seperatly for use with a keyboard and mouse.
I'm also using one of the first PS3's which to me was quite a joy considering noise to what I was used to hearing on my 360. Thing is I have no need to google things, because I've experienced all of these things not just read what people have said. I also haven't actually said the PS3 or 360 is better, I'm just point out what can be done with the PS3 and how well it works, to what other things I've personally experienced.
And waiting for HDMI from a 2005 release to late 2007 HDMI release is quite a wait to me espcially since to me it should of come as standard, so people wouldn't need to pay out even more to be able to have a HDMI port, although it would seem you'd have a more reliable one as well, though to me they should of replaced the ones that had to keep going in for repairs with the new internal changes, no one elses fault that they felt the need to hurry it to the market not noticing so many flaws just to get sales up for a good xmas/after xmas time. Though I am looking forward to seeing what they do with their next Xbox when it comes too it, I'm sure most if not all of those past problems will be made to a minimum after that round.

Silver is and always has been free, with free access to game demos etc etc. Its true that silver can't play netflix but they do have access to the movie market place.
Home is an overrated feature in my opinion, and from what I've read most reviewers don't think it's that great. However something similar to this has been in development for the xbox for sometime.
I meant google the problem with noisy fans on SOME not all original PS3's. Yes some Xboxes were loud just like yours was and some weren't the same went for the PS3.
I have a wireless keyboard and mouse combo that I can use in the dashboard on my Xbox, it is a PC one that I bought of of newegg, no special adapter. It's not the XBox's fault that developers haven't put the mouse and keyboard support into their games.
You can get a wireless headset for your xbox.
Yes the new xboxes are more reliable just like the new PS3's are, look up the yellow light of death.
I would like to see your PS3 running a fully fledged install of Fedora 12 smoothly.
As a side note, I actually suggested that my brother replace his RROD xbox with a PS3 if he was actually going to pay for games. It just annoys me when people try to say that the PS3 does all this stuff that an xbox doesn't.
-Rando

Unless we were just a unlucky bunch then quite alot of Xbox's had the same problems not just some, not with just noise but with motherboard and disc tray failures, as it was built in a way that made that a very high percent to happen, until they fixed those problems which is a good thing although it was most likely a must for them to be able to make a continued good impact. Mine kept having the same problem with the motherboard and disc tray quite a few times, just was annoying when I called they always tried to make excuses for it to be other reasons and for me to buy new cables.
Cause my PS3 warrenty has run out I'll prob pay a fiver a month to insure it for any damage done to it by the systems fault or by my fault, which will either get it repaired or a new one.
I also really enjoy Home, it's also an excellent place to meet new people and make new friends online then launch games. Hopefully Microsoft will release their version of it sometime soon, I think it would be a fun addition.
And the thing is the PS3 does do things the 360 doesn't which is factual, and at it's current price now to me makes it a great deal, thing is without spending some quaility time with one you can't fully understand it and see what it can fully do and will be doing, even some people that own one don't fully know what they can do with it.
Clearly the 360 has also changed in many ways I wouldn't mind seeing the new dashboard and all that though, both systems have a nice amount to offer, I just find the PS3 to me and for me to personally offer what I want to have more so, plus I've always enjoyed the Playstation series. I have every console going basicly the 360 was the only one I have ever sold so far. I think all the bad stuff that happened from mine, just really put me off of it which is why I sold it along with all it's games as I was never using it or buying any games for it anymore, I was also disappointed I couldn't see it in HD via HDMI from the box, I paid a fair amount for the Premium one when it first came out.
That's why I'll be interested to see what they offer in their next system and how well it will be from launch I know I'll buy it, I buy everyone so I get to experience them and give them all a chance. I remember a time when I was paying 40 pounds a year for Xbox live lol.

COD MW2... oh wait thats what we already play...
Honestly i have 15 games, and never play them. COD takes all of my time.
I did enjoy Uncharted 2, but i got really pissed at the end cuz i cant beat that @$$ whole last guy with the dang shotguns and granades. all i do is run in circles duying slowly.
Supposed to hit him 12 times, i cant get the guy more than 7 or 8. Kinda BS if you compare it to the rest of the game.
I hear good things about MAG. All my friends have X-box, but i cant imagine paying to get online. And the ps3 graphix ive been convinced are better. HOWever i do hate that i can play, left 4 dead.

Took me a few times but when I did it was worth it, hope they make another Uncharted.

Didn't Micro$oft lose on Xbox 360 console sales because they replaced the RRoD problems?

I expect they had a fair amount of losses from repairs/warrenties and then to change everything for newer 360's.

Guys I think the Wii trumps both the 360 and PS3 in almost every way.

yeah I get that, I've just been into the Xbox since playing Original Halo on the Original Xbox. When I get enough money I'm getting a PS3 to play The Show :)

i struggled initially with which i should buy, The 360 is where most of my friends are, and i get that the internet connection isn't that expensive. They do have a lot of exclusive x-box games, and that is a huge draw. But i went with the ps3 as i heard it was better gaming and video quality, apart from being a blue ray and free online.
