Born just outside of Mos Espa on the planet Tatooine in the year 238 ABY. Tatooine was a solitary planet with a growing New Republic influence but with the constant smuggling organizations and new Hutt crime syndicates, it remained a far seen goal.
His father, a former Jedi Master of the Corellian Temple, had Drakes mother sent to live in Mos Espa away from the jedi and dark jedi out of fear for his family. Even though times had changed since the old republic, it was still frowned upon for Jedi to marry. It was because of this and the fact that the dark jedi roaming the galaxy might try to take the child when born.
Drake grew up barely seeing his father but hearing about him all the time. When Drake turned 9, his father finally retired from the Jedi Order on Corellia and spent more time with his family on Tatooine. Drake Sr., Drakes father whom he was named after, began to show his son things of the force but tried to keep the broader aspects from his son. Drake Sr. wasn't sure if he wanted his son to be subjected to the same dedicated life to the Jedi that he had for more then 70 years. Drake Sr was old by human comparison but he was strong with the force and although he was nearly 90 years old, he barely looked older then 40.
Times went by and Drake Sr and his family made their money off moisture farming. When little Drake was the age of 10, his parents began to see signs in their son of skills beyond any normal human. Drake Sr started to contemplate whether to take him to Coruscant or Yavin. Little Drake was showing skills in the force that he had not been taught. The force was almost natural for him.
Lightening reflexes, skills with a vibro sword when he helped his father defend the farm and homestead against tusken raiders (sand people). It was when Drake returned home one day from a trip near the Dune Sea, with a Krayt Dragon pearl. Drake told his parents he didn't kill the krayt dragon but he did have to manuever his way around a colony of them without being seen or heard to retrieve it. Being beyond worried for their son at his constant need to hone and test himself, they began to look into other avenues for their sons future. Not just to help him grow and become better than a simple struggling moisture farmer but also to save his life. If he were to continue doing what he had been on Tatooine, he would end up hurt or dead. Drake was always trying to learn new things and always testing and honing his abilities that he knew he had and felt.
His parents, being humble and struggling moisture farmers, and his father, Drake Sr, knowing of a good Jedi Order that was growing and becoming strong, reinstating the keepers of peace and justice with the new republic, decided that the academy was the best place for little Drake. With high hopes and heavy hearts they caught a shuttle to Coruscant and left their child at the Jedi Temple hoping he could be trained and become a jedi to live a brighter and better future than they could give him. Moisture farming was not what they wanted for their son in the long run. Even though Drake Sr, knew of the dangers in a jedi's life, he felt it was best for his son. Drake Sr. could have kept his son and trained him himself but the enviroment of the academy and knowledge of other masters was what was best.
In the meantime, his parents stayed at a hotel near the fourth level Drake Sr wanted to keep a low profile. He didn't want any of his old enemies to know he was there and wished to remain anonymous, even to the Jedi he was giving his son away to.
Little Drake spent almost two years as a hopeful while his parents remained in Coruscant to see their little boy get accepted. Little Drake came home with the news of his acceptance and his parents were so happy for him. Within minutes, the door of the hotel they were living was blasted down and three men in black armor stormed in with a Zabrak following behind them wearing a black robe and cloak with the hood down. His skin was violet with dark tatoos covering his face and little Drake could only guess he was covered head to toe as was tradition with Zabrak males.
The Zabrak spoke a few words in their native tongue to Drake Sr and they carried a quick conversation when suddenly Drakes mother was seized by the armored soldiers and the Zabrak and Drakes father ignited their sabers. Little Drake was ordered by his father to run and did as ordered but only stopped just outside in the hallway of the hotel watchign his father fight this Zabrak.
The fight lasted for quite sometime. Drake Sr was able to kill the three guards holding his wife saving her while still maintaining safe combat with the Zabrak. Drakes mother tried to run for the door when the Zabrak sent a heel kick into Drake Sr's chin knocking him back. Enough opening there and Drakes mother was struck by the red saber of the Zabrak across her chest and she fell down with a muffled scream.
Drake gasped but knew enough not to be to loud. He had his training saber on his belt but didn't want to cause his father anymore trouble then already present. Drake fought the urge to rush to his mothers side. But instead he pulled the comlink from his belt and contacted the Jedi Temple.
In the meantime, Drake Sr jumped back to his feet seeing his wife struck down and dying.. He became infuriated but still maintained focus in the force and fought the Zabrak with an invigorated grace. But it was not enough. The Zabrak was highly skilled and within a few moments, the Zabrak disarmed Drake Sr, the former Jedi Master, and drove the red saber through his belly. "The Sith shall always remain no matter what you arrogant Jedi may think", the Zabrak said in common tongue as he stepped into the hallway leaving Drake Sr and his wife there do die. He seen little Drake as he stepped into the hallway and merely laughed. "I think I'll be seeing you in about 10 years, lil one. Til then, I have no use for you. And so you know.. My name is Qual. Darth Qual. You can tell your Jedi teachers and friends my name and that I am here, they will not believe you. They will think you to be a ignorant speaking without reason. They will say a Dark Jedi did this. And so until I am ready to come for you... This will remain between us." The zabrak chuckled again and just as he vanished down the left end of the hall, several jedi and republic guard came rushing from the right end of the hall.
Little Drake was able to spend the last few moments of his parents life by their side. He kissed his mother and they exchanged passionate words of love and adoration, then she passed away. Little Drake, 12 years old, watched his mother die. He then looked to his father as the two jedi that were there tried to console him but they didn't need to. Drake Sr was a jedi ... a powerful one, and he knew what was coming. "You will learn the ways of the force, my son." Drake Sr said to his son as he turned his gaze to him. "Yes father." Little Drake said with tears welling up.
"You will become pure in the force and you will make me proud. You are my son. And I love you...." Drake Sr passed away at that moment. The two jedi gave adamant to the fallen Master and his fathers body faded away only leaving his clothing. After a few moments and several questions, Little Drake was taken back to the academy. The Sith was absolutely right. What few questions he answered, he was not fully believed. until a master fully believes him, he would keep this to himself for the most part. But in his training, he knew.. Revenge was not the Jedi way.. He would learn to control his fear and anger and he would meditate at all times available to him so he could overcome this tragedy.
